4.A Temporary Home

Aisha held the phone carefully and placed it near her ear.

"Hello?"

From the other side, a calm and dignified voice greeted her.

"Assalamualaikum. I'm Usman Ali Khan... Eira's father."

Aisha straightened slightly.

"Wa Alaikum Assalam," she replied politely.

Usman continued, his tone carrying both concern and apology.

"I'm truly sorry for the trouble my daughter has caused your family. Eira is still very childish... innocent in many ways and unaware of how harsh the world can be."

Aisha glanced briefly toward the staircase before replying gently,

"No, no, please don't apologize. I understand. She's young, and sometimes children make impulsive decisions."

Their conversation continued for a while.

They spoke about their families, backgrounds, and lifestyles carefully trying to understand the people suddenly connected by unexpected circumstances.

Aisha found Usman to be respectful yet firm, while Usman sensed warmth and sincerity in her voice.

After a pause, he finally said,

"May I speak to Eira?"

"Of course," Aisha replied.

She handed the phone to Eira.

Eira immediately held it close.

"Yes, Baba?"

His voice turned serious.

"I will allow you to stay there..."

Hope flickered across her face.

"...but only on one condition."

Her smile faded into nervous curiosity.

"What condition, Baba?"

"If Mrs. Aisha agrees to let you stay," he said firmly.

The room fell quiet.

Eira slowly turned toward Aisha.

Suddenly, all her confidence disappeared.

Walking closer, she held her hands together almost like a child asking for forgiveness.

"Aunty..." she said softly, "will you let me stay here for a few days? I promise I won't trouble anyone... please?"

Her voice carried genuine hope.

The room grew silent.

Kashan looked toward his mother.

Zoya waited quietly.

And for a moment, all eyes rested on Aisha.

Aisha looked at Eira the nervous girl standing before her, far away from home yet trying so hard to appear brave.

Something in her softened.

With a gentle smile

she nodded.

A small yes.

The effect was instant.

A huge grin spread across Eira's face.

She almost bounced in excitement and quickly lifted the phone again.

"Baba!" she exclaimed happily. "Aunty agreed... does that mean I can stay?"

On the otherside, Usman remained silent for a second.

Then, in his steady voice, he replied

"Yes."

And just like that

a stranger's house began to feel a little more like home.

Seven Days of Freedom

Eira stayed with Kashan's family for seven unforgettable days.

And somehow, those seven days became the most beautiful days of her life.

For the first time, she lived without fear, without strict schedules, and without constantly asking for permission. Every morning felt lighter than the last.

She spent her days exploring Kashmir with Kashan and Zoya walking through breathtaking valleys, admiring snow-covered mountains, and losing herself in the quiet beauty surrounding her.

Kashmir felt like a dream she had accidentally stepped into.

The fresh air, the peaceful mornings, and the warmth of the people around her slowly healed a part of her she never realized was hurting.

More than the place itself

it was the people who made those days special.

Zoya quickly became one of her closest friends, their bond growing through laughter, endless conversations, and shared memories.

Aisha, with her gentle nature and caring heart, treated Eira with unexpected affection almost like a daughter who had been missing from the house.

And then

there was Kashan.

What began as an unexpected encounter slowly turned into friendship. Their conversations grew easier, the silence between them more comfortable.

But while Eira simply saw him as a trusted friend

for Kashan, things were changing.

Somewhere between long drives, shared smiles, and watching her admire the world with wonder-filled eyes, he found himself growing attached to her.

It was quiet.

Unspoken.

But real.

He began developing feelings for Eira feelings he neither expected nor fully understood.

Yet Eira remained completely unaware.

To her, Kashan was simply the person who had helped her during the most uncertain moment of her life.

And perhaps

that innocence made her even more difficult for him to forget.

Soon, the seven days came to an end.

The thought of leaving weighed heavily on Eira's heart.

Standing outside the house on her final morning, she looked around at the wooden home, the garden blooming with flowers, and the people who had unknowingly become part of her heart.

She hugged Aisha and Zoya, her eyes slightly emotional.

"Take care of yourselves," she said softly.

Aisha smiled and blessed her warmly, while Zoya insisted she stay in touch.

Then, with heavy hearts and quiet emotions, Eira and Kashan left for Delhi.

This time

the journey back felt different.

The awkwardness was gone.

The drive was filled with easier conversations, teasing remarks, and comfortable silences only friendship creates.

They were strangers no longer.

They were friends.

After reaching Delhi, Eira booked the first flight to Lucknow.

Before leaving, she looked at Kashan one last time grateful for everything he and his family had done for her.

And then

she left.

But while Eira believed her little adventure had finally come to an end

she had no idea that something far greater was waiting for her back home.
